Lady in music

Lady Zee, real name is Zethu Valentine is a Swati female deejay that got into the game when she was only 19 years old. She was born in Mbabane, and stayed in Mobeni, Matsapha for 2 years, after which her family moved to eZulwini, eBuka. She did her studies at Lechwe Light then finished off at Saim Christian High School.

She specializes in house, deep house, commercial and the new school amapiano music. Lady Zee has played in some big events including, The MTN Bushfire Festival 2019, Amapiano and Deep House Session 2 in Mozambique along side Vigro Deep and Dj Bucks. She was made an official deejay for the African Women Designers Week 2019. She has also played in a number of hot spots in Eswatini, including  Solanis, Chill n Grill, Tums Water World, Riders Ranch, and Emfuleni Lifestyle.

Lady Zee plays in weddings ,corporate parties and private parties. She has shared a stage with Dj Tira, Black Motion, Dladla Mshunqisi, Vigro Deep, Naakmusiq, Kabza De Small, Bizizi and Kay-gee, and Dj Bigsky, just to name a few.

When I asked her on how she got into music and deejaying, she says it all started in grade 10 when a classmate of hers was deejaying using a laptop everyday after their exams and one day she asked him to show her how he syncs two songs together without pausing or stopping the other. She found it very much exciting, so from that day she kept it in her head until she finished high school, then her older brother bought her a laptop as a gift for finishing school. The first app she got into the laptop was that deejaying app and she started doing music collections and the rest is history.

She used to record mixes and one day she submitted one mix on radio and everything else just started coming together. She was in college doing her diploma in Psychology when her music career started really picking up. It was crazy!

Growing up, music used to be the center of every gathering, she says...hence she always wanted to be behind the radio selecting which song to play and at that time, old school music was the main fact because of her parents and their friends, so she can warmly say it was always a part of her life.

She tells me that its the greatest feeling ever to be a female in a male dominated industry especially because she's not only just a female in a male dominated industry but a female who is killing it in a male dominated industry. "I really thank The Almighty everyday for such a talent." Zee says.

Covid-19

Lady Zee shares her thoughts on the Covid-19 pandemic and says that Eswatini doesn’t have much resources and with Covid-19 shutting down a lot of businesses and events, things are slow and there's not much income that people are making and its really sad. She prays that this gets over and done with because it is real.

With the national partial lock down, "Firstly I don’t think people understand the partial lock down thing because they are still moving up and down acting as if nothing is happening so I'm not really sure if this will help reduce the spread of the virus. I wish the government was going an extra mile about this."

She says the lock down has made her feel really grateful and thankful to God for the little that she has and her family because some people are really having it hard. She is regaining her skin glow and she is downloading new music, polishing up her deejaying skills😌. And also, she is somehow turning into a chef πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Zee advises people to keep safe, wash their hands, sanitize and eat healthy. Most importantly check on each other and love one other on these trying times. If you have goals and dreams this is the time to rewrite all your plans and wait to strive. Don’t give up.

She says the first thing she really wants to do after the lock down is to travel and go to all the places she has been wishing to visit although that will take sometime because she knows for a fact that events will keep coming after this. People will want to party!!

Lady Zee concludes by saying she wants to venture properly into music making and videos featuring big names in the industry, so people must stay tuned. Other than that she will be helping people create memories and having their best times out there. There’s just plenty that is coming on her side, people must stay tuned.
