Spotlight shine

Nsika Mazibuko (24), also known as Llucid is a young Swati musician from Hlathikhulu, born and bred. He is the last born in his family, with three other siblings and he attended Salem High School before going to The University of Eswatini,Mbabane campus. Nsika has recently won the first season of The Spotlight by MTN Eswatini, in which he walked away with a brand new car,a record deal,MTN data for a year and an Eswatini MTN brand ambassor contract to name a few.

Nsika and I had a little fun chat about his life in music and winning The Spotlight by MTN Eswatini. He first says that music really came about when his brother went to varsity and his brother and a few friends of his formed a music stable called Pulsic Rhythms, in which Nsika released two of his first singles with, then became independent after that.

He says that he fell in love with music because of the power and the command of music. "Music is life". He said. It has so much impact, and when you are a musician, you have a responsibility, as what you speak are not just words, they have impact on people's lives.

Nsika says that he was tired of being stagnant and being stuck at the same place in terms of his music career and felt like he did not have the resources to make it happen and because he knew what he was capable of, he joined The Spotlight by MTN, to have some progress in his music career.

In as much as it may sound arrogant, Nsika says he saw himself winning the competition at the beginning of it all. He put the pressure on himself to not settle for anything less. Anything short of a victory, was a loss to him because that was the goal he set out for himself from the beginning of the competition. But because that was the goal he set out for himself, it does not mean it was easy. It was definitely not a walk in the park.

He says it took him a while for everything to sink in after he won. By a while, he does not mean a day, a week, but weeks. In as much as he imagined himself winning the competition, he did not know what winning the competition really meant.

He hopes to be an example to a lot of other people who may or may not be from the same background as him. He hopes to be a sign of hope to fight for your dreams and not give up. He says that one other thing that drives him is what Flameboy Universe once said to him, "It’s never too late to give yourself a second chance".

Nsika wants to take his music career globally because he believes in himself more than anything and what he can offer in the music industry. He says he can be as big as any artist in the industry, with God willing. He does not just want to be a Swati artist, he wants to be THE artist, without any tag attached to him, a global entity, to break barriers and create a platform for other artists.
