African Sounds

The lock down has had us sitting at the edges of our seats, waiting to hear good news, progress, change, and of course we all cannot wait for the day when they will announce that the entertainment industry is open again and we can host and attend the events we've been planning to. Artists have though, been entertaining us throughout this pandemic and in the next few weeks I will be talking to a few of my friends and some of your favorite Djs in the Kingdom on what they have been getting up to and anything new that they are working on.

With that being said, this week I'm starting with two well renowned duos, Drum Rhythm and 2.0 who have started a podcast, weAFRO, that mainly focuses on the genre called Afro House music. Afro House Music is an African music mixed with a house beat. Afro house is a sub-genre of house music, with its roots predominantly in South Africa, to be precise.

I had a chat with Kwakhe Dino Langwenya, Drum Rhythm Dj and weAFRO representative who mentioned that, during the early days of the lock down, they thought of what they could to keep their genre relevant or rather educate those that do not know it since everyone is at home and on their phones, thus they figured to start this movement and be consistent with it.

Dino mentions that Fantacy, from 2.0 called him one evening with the idea to start the podcast, although they have always wanted to work on something together as brands. At first, they wanted all afro house Djs to be part of the movement but then again, they figured to just work as the two duos and see where that takes them.

Moving on, they shared their ideas and some of those ideas are yet to be revealed. They then created social media pages where people can follow them, in which they first wanted for people to know the idea and what was coming by getting it out there, and people responded to it positively hence they kept on pushing consistently.

For all the weAFRO mixes by the Djs featured, you can follow weAFRO on Heartis, Mixcloud and Audio Mack. Their mixes are available there and you can be directed to the mentioned sites via their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Dino says that for now, they are focusing on their weekly mix tapes. They can not reveal their next target yet as the aim is to catch it before it discovers that they are targeting it, "the move". You can follow the below social media handles for the 2.0 mix tomorrow and more about weAFRO.
